Bhadravathi


Bhadravathi is an industrial town and taluk headquarters in Shimoga district.
Bhadravathi is located at a distance of 20 Km from its district headquarters Shimoga.

The city is situated 597 meters above sea level. Bhadravathi got its name from the popular Bhadra River which flows through the city. Bhadravathi was earlier known as Benkipura or Benki Pattana (city of fire).


Tourist attractions:

Lakshmi Narasimha Temple: The antique temple dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narasimha is the main attraction of Bhadravathi. The temple was constructed in 13th century AD by Hoysala ruler Veera Narasimha, the Grand Son of Vishnuvardhana. The temple is built in Nakshatra style platform. The temple houses idols of Lord Srikrishna, Lord Purushottama, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Sharadamba and Lord Narasimha.

Rameshwara Temple: Rameshwara temple built on the banks of the river Tunga attracts pilgrims from all parts of Karnataka and other states
