Hoovinakere is a small village and birth place of popular sage Vadiraja of Dwaitha Philosophy. Hoovinakere is located at a distance of 5 Km from Kumbhashi in Kundapur Taluk, Udupi district. You can find bits and pieces of the places where Vadiraja spent his childhood.

Sage Vaduraja was born in Hoovinakere to a couple Ramacharya and Gowri Devi. Vadiraja was born to the couple after they were blessed by a saint.
It is believed that the saint told that, if Gowri Devi (Mother of Vaduraja) gives birth to a son inside house, then he will take the responsibility of the family, in case she gives birth to a son outside the house or in backyard, then he may pursue the desire of God and happen to be a social reformer. Gowri Devi became pregnant as per the blessings of sage and confined herself to her residence. One day, at the time she was in her final stage of her pregnancy, situation made her to chase the wild animals that had entered into their backyard and there she gave birth to a baby boy (i.e., outside the house).

Therefore the field where Gowri Devi delivered to Vadiraja is known as Gowrigadde. A worship centre in respect of Vadiraja is situated within the same field in Hoovinakere.
