Sonda, Vadiraja Mutt


Sonda is a small village surrounded with the lush greens with beauty in Uttara Kannada (North Kanara) district of Karnataka state.
Sonda is just 20 km away from Sirsi town. Sonda is well known for the Vadiraja Mutt.

As you reach the Sonda Mutt, you need to visit first the lake known as Hayagriva Samudra. You can see the Dhwaja Stamba in front of the Rama Thrivikrama temple and towards the west of the lake Hayagriva Samudra. Hamsa and Garuda, the vehicles of the Lord are depicted on this Dwaja sthamba.

The temple of Rama Thrivikrama has three parts, the sanctum sanctorum with the attractive idol of Lord Thrivikrama, the stone chariot used for transporting the Lord's idol and the idol of Sri Lakshmi Devi in the chariot.

Towards the temple and further down you can notice the Rajangana which also houses the mutt's offices. Here is the entrance to the mutt, the Puja mandir (ananthaasana), stores and kitchen.

You can also see Dhavala Ganga tank along with a smaller Sheethala Ganga tank nearby. It is believed that water of these tanks confluence of all holy rivers of India. Around the tanks you can visit several small shrines consecrated by Sri Vadiraja Teertha-Sri Chandramouleshwara on the south, Sri Veera Anjaneya on the west, Sri Venugopalaswamy on the north.

Towards the east of the Tanks you can see the Pancha Vrindavans with the vrindavan of Sri Vadiraja Teertha situated in the centre surrounded by four more vrindavans forming a perfect square.

Sri Vedavyasa temple can be found opposite to the Pancha Vrindavans. The temple dedicated to the Kshetrapala - Bhootharaja is on the right side of the Vrindavans. Naga Vana is in the North.

Temple provides Lunch and Dinner for the devotees.

Accommodation facility is provided from the temple management.

Nearest Railway Station: Haveri, Hubli

Road: Sonda is well connected by road network.

The Sonda mutt is approached by road through beautiful, verdant, thick forests, tall hills and river.

Directions from Bangalore to Sonda : Bangalore - Tumkur - Chitradurga - Haveri - Sirsi - Sonda

Road signs will guide you to Sonda Mutt without any trouble.
