Soraba

Soraba is a small town and Taluk headquarters in Shimoga district.

Soraba was called as Surabhipura (meaning Town of Surabhi) in the past.

Ranganatha temple

Surabhi was the holy cow that used to milk over a stone image of Lord Ranganatha. A temple is constructed in the same place where the Surabhi used to milk and it is at present Soraba's popular Lord Ranganatha temple.

History narrate of the fact that temple was constructed by a local Landlord from Halesoraba on the bay of river Dandavathi. We even now have the manuscript written in Old Kannada writing at the stone tower close to the bay of river Dandavathi. The main road in Soraba also called as ratha beedhi is the only road has its main shops and hospitals. The main road in Soraba has stretched for approximately a kilometer.
