Uppinangady


Uppinangady is a small village located in Puttur taluk in Dakshina Kannada district. Uppinangady is a beautiful village in the Western Ghats and it is surrounded by Kumaradhara River on one side and Nethravathi River on the other side. The two rivers meet before Lord Sahasralingeshwara Temple on heavy rainy season. The meeting of the two rivers called sangama and many people witness the merge and take a holy dip.
The main attraction of Uppinangady is a temple dedicated to the Lord Sahasralingeshwara (Lord Shiva). The Sahasralingeshwara Temple is very old temples and the temple has history of about 2500 years. The present structure of the temple belongs to the 13th century. Apart from the Sahasralingeshwara temple, Goddess Mahakali has a separate shrine on the banks of river Nethravathi.

Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple: Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur (14 Km) is very old temple and it is believed that the temple has been constructed in 11th century. Lord Shiva is the main deity of this temple.

Dharmasthala: Dharmasthala (39 Km) is one of the important pilgrim centres for Hindus. The main attraction of this place is a temple dedicated to Manjunathaswamy (Lord Shiva).

Shishila: Shishila is a beautiful temple village located in a picturesque location situated on the banks of river Kapila. The river flowing here enhances the natural richness of this place. The main attraction of Shishila is a temple dedicated to Lord Shishileshwara (Shiva).

Southadka: Southadka is a pilgrimage centre located at a distance of 3 km from Kokkada in Belthangadi Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. The uniqueness of the place is Lord Maha Ganapathi is out in the open field and there is no proper structure of the temple.
