Varadamoola

Varadamoola is located at a distance of 6 km from Sagar town in Shimoga district. Varadamoola is picturesque location situated in Western Ghats in Karnataka.
Since River Varada originates from this place, hence the name Varadamoola. River Varada flows through the Banavasi town before joining Tungabhadra River.

The main attraction at Varadamoola is you can see the temple dedicated to Goddess Varadamba or Varadadevi. The name of River Varada indicates that it is a boon-giving river.

You can also find another temple dedicated to Lord Surya Narayana.

The Varada, another tributary of the Tungabhadra, takes her birth at Varadamoola near Ikkeri in Sagar Taluk, flows north past Chandragutti (Sorab taluk) and reach Banavasi town (Sirsi Taluk of Uttara Kannada district) and turns towards the North-East. River Varada then enters the Dharwad district; she flows towards north, bending round gradually to the north east. South of Bankapur and Savanur, she runs with an easterly path into the Tungabhadra at Galaganatha below Havanur.

According to the legend, it is believed that the Varada originated in the Bhagirathi water poured from his conch by Lord Vishnu on the head of Lord Shiva at Varada-moola in order to calm down the fire of austerities performed by Shiva.

Post monsoon, the picturesque atmosphere of Varadamoola attracts those who crave for peace and serenity.
